| Summary, etc. | The urban context of Egypt is rich in heritage conservation districts and valuable listed buildings. However, these districts are always in a state of change due to new infill buildings.<br/>The infill buildings -specifically their facades- affect the total urban character in a positive or negative way based on the design of the façade. These designs are usually disappointing in the absence of clear and objective guidelines that should direct these new designs.<br/>In addition, design review committees was not enough to judge and evaluate the compatibility of new infill facades, because they depend only on professionals ignoring the other stakeholders that should govern the urban character specially normal lay persons.<br/>In this research, the collected layperson impressions are compared to professionals’ views and a significant difference in judgement is proved between the two groups. <br/>Additionally, new building facades in a historical settlement in Egypt are investigated, using modern entropy approach. Derived from physics and information science, the entropy method is used to judge visual chaos in a systematic scientifical way. Then a correlation analysis is performed to compare entropy of façade attributes to peoples’ perceived compatibility of the infill building to its context. The façade attributes tested here are building scale, setting, solid /void structure, rhythm, colors and materials.<br/>As a result, the study found a number of negative correlations between entropy in façade attributes and perceived compatibility. These attributes coefficients were valuated altogether to assess the relative weight of each attribute in the infill building façade and predict the people’s satisfaction about it to an acceptable extent.<br/>At the end, these relative weights of infill façade design attributes were used to design a scorecard that may help future reviewers to assess the compatibility of the design of the façade objectively, without the need to question professionals and laypersons every time. |

| Summary, etc. | يهدف هذا البحث إلى تحرى امكانية تطبيق منهج الانتروبي المعلوماتي كوسيلة لقياس الفوضى البصرية، وبالتالي تقييم مدى توافق واجهات المباني الجديدة مع سياقها المباشر.<br/>وذلك لأان واجهات هذه المباني الجديدة لها تأثير كبير على الهوية العمرانية بشكل عام. ومع ذلك فإن هذه المباني عادة ما تحتوي واجهات ذات تصميم متواضع في ظل غياب الاشتراطات الواضحة و الموضوعية التي توجهها.<br/>في هذا البحث، يشمل الفصل الأول مقدمة عن أهداف البحث و تساؤلاته، و منهجيته، التي تنقسم بدورها إلى جزء نظري يشمل مراجعة الأدبيات في الخمسة فصول الأولى، ثم دراسة تطبيقيىة في الفصل السادس، و استنتاجات في الفصل السابع.<br/>في الفصل الثاني، يشتمل البحث على محاولة لتعريف واجهات الملء، و التمييز بين المباني الجديدة كليا المقامة على قطع أراضي خالية تم تجاوزها في التنمية العمرانية السابقة، و بين واجهات الملء الناتجة عن إعادة بناء أو تعلية مبنى قائم محاط بعدة مباني قائمة. كما يشمل الفصل على أهمية هذه الواجهات بالنسبة للعمران و التحديات التي تواجهها.<br/>في حين يشتمل الفصل الثالث على ملخصا عن تعريف الواجهات الملائمة للسياق في الأدبيات السابقة. حيث تميز الأبحاث السابقة بين الملائمة المجتمعية، التي تحدث عن طريق المشاركة المجتمعية في تصميم و اعتماد واجهات المباني. و بين الملائمة المادية من حيث تناسق خصائص واجهات المبنى الجديد مع خصائص المباني القائمة. و قد تم دراسة و حصر هذه الخصائص من كثير من الدراسات السابقة لتشتمل على سبيل الحصر: المقياس، الردود، النوافذ، الايقاع، والألوان و الخامات. و قد تم شرح كل من هذه الخصائص في نفس الفصل.<br/>في الفصل الرابع، تم تقديم ملخص عن مداخل التعامل مع تصميم الواجهات الجديدة، مثل مدخل المحاكاة، الترابط، أو التعارض، مع شرح مميزات وعيوب استخدام كل مدخل. كما تم استعراض بعض المداخل الجديدة مثل مدخل الحيادية، التجاهل، أو الجمع بين أكثر من مدخل في نفس المبانى. ثم يقدم الفصل ملخصا عن كيفية اختيار المدخل المناسب ، ومن هو المسؤول عن اختيار المدخل في كل حالة على حدة.<br/>يعنى الفصل الخامس من البحث بشرح الفرق بين انظمة التحكم في تصميم الواجهات في مختلف دول العالم. بالتفريق بين نظام الاشتراطات، و نظام لجان التقييم، مع تقديم نبذة عن كل نظام و نقاط القوى و الضعف فيه. ثم يشتمل الفصل على مقارنة بين هذه النظم في مصر، فرنسا و المملكة المتحدة كأمثلة.<br/>أما في الفصل السادس، فتبدأ الدراسة التطبيقية باختيار 18 صورة فوتوغرافية وحساب نسب الانتروبي لكل منها، ثم عرض هذه الصور في استبيان للأفراد العاديين وكذلك للمختصين. تلى ذلك مقارنة نتائج كلا من المجموعتين و اثبات وجود فارق ملحوظ بينهما. <br/>بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تم حساب معامل الارتباط بين نسب الانتروبي وبين انطباعات الأفراد عن مدى ملائمة واجهات المباني مع سياقها المباشر، و وجدت عدة ارتباطات سلبية بينهما. تلى ذلك حساب الوزن النسبي لكل معامل من معاملات الانتروبي و بالتالي التنبؤ بمدى رضا المارة عن ملائمة واجهة المبنى الجديد لسياقها عن طريق حسابات الانتروبي. |
