| Summary, etc. | Background: Body mass index (BMI) is the current widely used parameter for defining and categorizing obesity. But it doesn’t account for body fat distribution. Visceral adipose tissue accumulation has a positive association with metabolic syndrome risk and can increase the risk of peri-operative complications. The use of pre-operative computed tomography for the detection of visceral fat area and subcutaneous fat area is currently recommended.<br/>Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between visceral fat area and early postoperative complications in patients with obesity following sleeve gastrectomy.<br/>Methods: A single institute prospective cohort study included 78 patients with obesity undergoing sleeve gastrectomy in the period between May 2023 to November 2023. A non-contrast abdominal computed tomography scan was performed for measurement of the pre- operative visceral fat area before undergoing sleeve gastrectomy. Patients had 30 days follow-up for detection of early post-operative complications.<br/>Results: The study included 78 patients with obesity undergoing sleeve gastrectomy. 25.6% of cases had early post-operative complications. The mean visceral fat area in complicated cases was 212.1 cm2 compared to 160.93 cm2 in non-complicated cases (P value = 0.009). Patients were divided into low and high visceral fat area groups in relation to the calculated median visceral fat area which was estimated to be 138 cm2. |

| Summary, etc. | تعتبر السمنة من الامراض المزمنة وهي عبارة علي زيادة الدهون في الجسم والتي تؤدي الي اضرار بالصحة وقد تزايد انتشار السمنة واصبجت تعتبر بمثابة وباء عالمي <br/>تزيد السمنة من خطر الاصابة بمجموعة متنوعة من الاضطربات الايضية مثل المرض السكريمن الوع الثاني وزيادة دهون الدم وانقطاع التنفس الانسدادي اثناء النوم وارتفاع ضغط الدم وامراض القلب و الاوعية الدموية الاخري والسرطان مما يؤدي الي انخفاض متوسط العمر المتوقع <br/>يتناسب خطر جدوث المضاعفات المرتبطة بالسمنة مع درجة السمنة و الاهم من ذلك تراكم الدهون <br/>فتوزيع الدهون في الجسم يؤثر علي خطر الاصابة بالامراض يشكل مستقل عن الوزن الجسم الاجمالي او نسبة الدهون في الجسم <br/>تعتبر جراحة السمنة العلاج الاكثر فعالية علي مداي الطويل للسمنة الشديدة وترتبط بمتوسط عمر متوقع اطول من الطرق الاخري لفقدان الوزن <br/>يعد مؤشر كتلة الجسم حاليا المقياس الاكثر استخداما لتقييم السمنة و لكنة ليس حساسا لتوذيع الدهون في الجسم ولاينعكس بدقة شدة السمنة او جطرتها <br/>يستطيع التصوير المقطعي تحديد توزيع الدهون في الجسم ويمكن الاعتماد علية لتقييم الدهون الحشوية <br/>في دراستنا ارتبطت نسبة الدهون الحشوية قبل العملية ارتباط ايحابي مع حدوث مضاعفات ما بعد عملية التكميم المعدة <br/>وقد توصلنا الي نسبة الدهون الحشوية المقاسة بالتصوير المقطعي هي عامل خطر <br/>للمضاعفات المبكرة مابعد جراحة السمنة وانها قد تلعب دوا في التقييم قبل الجراحة |
