| Summary, etc. | This master thesis presents a comprehensive study on the integration of remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques with field observations, petrography, geochemistry, and the genesis of mineralization for the exploration of gold and copper deposits in the south Gabal Um Monqul (SGUM) and Gabal Al Kharaza (GKZ) prospects. The research aims to evaluate the efficacy of integrating these multidisciplinary approaches in delineating mineralized zones, understanding the geological characteristics, and unraveling the genesis of gold and copper mineralization in the specific geological settings of the SGUM and GKZ prospects.<br/>The study encompasses a detailed analysis of remote sensing data, including Landsat-8, Sentinel-2 and Quick Bird, to identify spectral signatures associated with mineralization, structural features, lithology and old trenches at the SGUM and GKZ prospects. The weighted overlay method tool is employed to integrate thematic layers obtained from remote sensing data to provide two favorability maps for prospective areas in the two prospects.<br/>Field observations and geological mapping are conducted in the SGUM and GKZ to characterize the lithological units, structural features, alteration patterns, and mineral assemblages associated with gold and copper mineralization. Petrographic analysis of rock samples is performed to identify mineral textures, alteration minerals, and primary mineralogy, shedding light on the genesis and paragenesis of gold and copper deposits in the specific geological context of the two prospects. Representative samples covering the rock units in the area of study were selected and analyzed for major oxides, trace, and rare earth elements in order to identify their geochemical classification, magma type, and tectonic setting.<br/>The comparative analysis of the SGUM and GKZ prospects provides insights into the geological controls, mineralization processes, and the genesis of gold and copper deposits specific to each area. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the spatial distribution, characteristics, and genesis of gold and copper deposits, aiding in the delineation of exploration targets, the assessment of resource potential, and the development of genetic models for mineralization in these specific areas.<br/>The combination of field observations, geochemical analysis, and mineral chemistry data, along with the gold fire assay data, confirms the existence of significant quantities of dispersed gold and copper, not just within the mineralized quartz veins, but also within the alteration zones. The data presented in this thesis demonstrate resemblances in the mineralization style between the SGUM and GKZ prospects and iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits found in other locations within the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS) and in other parts of the world. |
