| Summary, etc. | Upper Crossed Syndrome (UCS) is a musculoskeletal<br/>imbalance common in occupations with repetitive movements and poor<br/>ergonomics. Cleaning workers often perform repeated activities in<br/>awkward positions, exposing them to postural abnormalities and<br/>musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Purpose: To determine the prevalence<br/>of UCS among cleaning workers and to explore its correlation to the<br/>physical workload. Subjects and Methods: 104 participants of both<br/>genders aged 18-50 years with simiar work ergonomics participated in the<br/>study. They were assessed using photogrammetry for forward head posture<br/>(FHP) and rounded shoulder posture (RSP) and using a bubble<br/>inclinometer for thoracic hyperkyphosis (THK) measurement. The<br/>Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) assessed the musculoskeletal pain<br/>intensity level, while the physical workload was evaluated with the RULA<br/>worksheet. Results: The prevalence of UCS, FHP, RSP and THK was<br/>(30.77%, 61.54%, 40.38% and 65.38%) respectively. A binary logistic<br/>regression analysis showed that the significant predictors for UCS were<br/>being overweight or obese (OR = 8.26, 95% CI 3.22-21.23, p<0.05),<br/>having 5-30 years of work (OR = 8.14, 95% CI 2.96-22.40, p<0.05) and<br/>working more than 9 h/day (OR = 3.13, 95% CI 1.32-7.44, p<0.05). The<br/>NPRS among participants with pain was 6.08 ± 1.92. RULA score among<br/>participants was 6.33 ± 0.73. There was no significant correlation between<br/>UCS and RULA score (P>0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of UCS<br/>among cleaning workers was 30.77%. High BMI, long working hours and<br/>prolonged working years were the predictors. Preventive measures are<br/>necessary to reduce the risk of MSDs, as indicated by high RULA scores. |
