Summary, etc. Objectives: The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the effect of two surface finishing protocolos ( Polishing and Glazing) on surface roughness as well as wear behavior of polished and glazed ultra-translucent cubic zirconia against natural enamel. Methodology: A total of eighteen CAD/CAM fabricated ultra-translucent multilayered cubic zirconia crowns were constructed. Crown samples were then sintered in program at S1 sintering furnace according to manufacturer instructions. Crown samples were divided into two groups according to the surface finishing protocols. Group1: Polishing surface finish. n=9. Group2: Glazing surface finish. n=9. Surface roughness was assessed by a non-contact profilometer while wear behavior was assessed by 3D superimposition. Results: An overall comparison between both groups regarding the amount of surface roughness before wear simulation revealed that there was no statistically significant difference between mean Ra of polished (0.204 µm) and glazed zirconia (0.225 µm). overall comparison between both groups regarding amount of surface roughness after wear simulation revealed that there was no statistically significant difference between mean Ra of polished (0.25 µm) and glazed zirconia (0.2539 µm). With regard to results of the variables interaction on surface roughness (Ra) before and after wear simulation, the mean Ra values for polished zirconia crowns before and after wear testing were (0.204 µm) and (0.25 µm) respectively. On the other hand, the mean Ra values for glazed zirconia crowns before and after wear simulation were (0.225 µm) and (0.2539 µm) respectively. So, there was a statistically significant increase in mean Ra after wear testing in both groups. With reference to the results of the comparison between changes in surface roughness (ΔRa) of glazed and polished zirconia, the mean (ΔRa) of polished zirconia crowns was (0.046 µm), while the mean (ΔRa) of glazed zirconia crowns was (0.0288 µm). Therefore, glazed zirconia crowns showed statistically significant lower change in surface roughness (ΔRa) than polished zirconia crowns. Regarding superimposition method, the mean RMS values of polished and glazed zirconia were (0.1158 µm) and (0.1655 µm), respectively. Therefore, there was no statistically significant difference between RMS of polished and glazed zirconia crowns. Regarding the results of correlation between surface roughness changes and root mean square, there was a direct correlation between (ΔRa) and (RMS) with no statistical significance. (Correlation coefficient = 0.166, P-value = 0.510). Conclusions: <br/>1-Surface roughness of ultra-translucent multilayered cubic zirconia increased after wear simulation in both tested groups (Polishing and Glazing) with greater surface roughness changes observed in the polished group.<br/>2-Both surface finishing protocols (Polishing and Glazing) showed comparable wear behavior in ultra-translucent multilayered cubic zirconia crowns.<br/>3-Polishing and glazing can be used alternatively as surface finishing protocols for Ultra-translucent multilayered cubic zirconia crowns.<br/>4-Direct correlation was found between the surface roughness changes produced by both tested surface finish protocol (Polishing and Glazing) and wear behavior of ultra-translucent multilayered cubic zirconia crowns.
