| Summary, etc. | Background: Glaucoma is a common condition which affects people worldwide. It is the second leading cause of blindness globally and this blindness is usually irreversible. Awareness and knowledge related to the nature of glaucoma and its treatment regimen is the first step in planning for disease management. Aim: to evaluate the effect of proposed nursing care protocol on selected outcomes including (glaucoma knowledge, glaucoma manifestations, glaucoma activity limitation, patients’ practice regarding eye care) among patients with glaucoma.Design: Quasi-experimental pre-posttests nonequivalent control group design was used in the study. Setting: The study was conducted in the Glaucoma Outpatient Clinic, in one of Cairo university affiliated hospitals in Egypt. Sample: A purposive sample of 62 adult male and female patients having a newly confirmed diagnosis of primary open angle glaucoma in both eyes. Tools: five tools were utilized to collect data; Personal and Medical Background Information Form; Pre-post Glaucoma Knowledge Assessment Test; Glaucoma Manifestations Assessment Tool; Glaucoma Activity Limitation Questionnaire and Patients’ Practices Checklist Regarding Eye Care. Results: The mean age among the study and control groups were 55.4±5.1 and 52.8±4.6 years respectively. Furthermore, 61.3% of the study group and 67.7 % of the control groups were males. A highly significance differences were shown for total mean scores of glaucoma knowledge (t=67.918, p=0.0001**), glaucoma activity limitation (t=4.785, p=0.0001**), and practices of eye care (t=40.396, p=0.0001**) at 6th weeks post intervention. Statistically significant differences in intra ocular pressure (IOP) of right and left eye between the study and control group in the third assessment was evident (X2= 5.4, P=0.02*) (X2= 4.2, P=0.04*) respectively. Conclusion: Based on the study findings, implementing the nursing care protocol was effective in improvingpatients' knowledge, IOP, activity limitation, and practices of eye care. |

| Summary, etc. | المقدمه : يعد مرض المياه الزرقاء (الجلوكوما) من أكثر أمراض العيون شيوعا في العالم، كما انه يعتبر ثاني مسبب لفقدان البصر في العالم وهومرض يصيب عصب العين ويؤدي إلى تلف تدريجي في أنسجة العصب مما يؤدي إلى انحسار مجال الإبصار، وضعف الرؤية علي أطراف مجال البصر ، ومع تقدم المرض يمتد ذلك إلى مركز مجال الرؤية.وبالتالي توضيح المرض ومعرفة خطوات الرعايه الذاتيه ، والالتزام بشكل جيد بالادويه بانتظام مع الفحص بصفة دورية عن طريق قياس ضغط العين، وايضا التحكم بالامراض المزمنه من العوامل التي تساعد علي الوقاية من فقدان البصر أو إبطاء تقدمه. و تهدف الدراسة إلي التعرف علي تقييم تأثير بروتوكول مقترح للرعاية التمريضية لمرضي المياه الزرقاء على نتائج مختارة )المعرفة بالمياه الزرقاء، أعراض المياه الزرقاء، التقيد في اداء الانشطة ، وممارسات المرضي فيما يتعلق بالعناية بالعين). وقد شملت عينة الدراسه 62 مريض من الذكور والاناث البالغين الذين تم تشخيصهم حديثًا بمرض المياه الزرقاء الاولي مفتوح الزاوية في كلتا العينين.وتم تم إستخدام الاستراتيجية "الشبه تجريبى" تخطيط ما قبل/ بعد التدخل بمجموعة ضابطة غير متكافئة فى هذه الدراسة. وتم جمع بيانات البحث باستخدام خمس ادوات: أداة جمع البيانات الديموغرافيه والطبيه ، اختبار تقييم معرفة المرضي عن المياه الزرقاء، أداة تقييم أعراض المياه الزرقاء ، أداة تقييم التقيد في أداء الانشطه، وأداه تقيييم ممارسات المرضي فيما يتعلق بالعنايه بالعين. وقدأظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن الدراسة ما بين 40 و62 عامًا بمتوسط 55.4 ± 5.1 عامًا ، بينما تراوحت أعمار المجموعة الضابطة ما بين 44 و 63 عامًا بمتوسط 52.8 ± 4.6عاما. كما اظهرت الدراسة ان غالبية مجموعة الدراسة والمجموعه الضابطه من الذكور بمعدل (61.3 ٪ و67.7 ٪) علي التوالي. وكشفت الدراسة انه لم يوجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية حول معرفة المرضي بالمياه الزرقاء بين مجموعتي الدراسه والضابطه قبل تطبيق برتوكول الرعاية التمريضيه (P> 0.05)، بينما اوضحت الدراسه انهبعد ستة اسابيع من تطبيق بروتوكول الرعاية التمريضيه وجد اختلاف ذو دلالة إحصائية بين مجموعه الدراسة والمجموعه الضابطه في تقييم معرفة المرضي بالمياه الزرقاء(t=67.918, p=0.0001**)، التقيد في اداء الانشطة(t=4.785, p=0.0001**) ، وممارسات المرضي فيما يتعلق بالعناية بالعين(t=40.396, p=0.0001**). وايضا تبين من نتائج الدراسة وجود دلالة إحصائية مختلفة في تقييم ضغط العين في نهاية الاسبوع السادس من الدراسه بين مجموعه الدراسة والمجموعه الضابطه علي التوالي<br/>(X2= 5.4, P=0.02*)(X2= 4.2, P=0.04*). في ضوء النتائج التي توصلت اليها هذه الدراسه، وجد ان مستويات المعرفة ، واداء الانشطه ، والممارسات المتعلقه بالعناية بالعين لمجموعة الدراسة كانت أعلى بعد تنفيذ بروتوكول الرعاية التمريضية من مستويات المجموعة الضابطة الذين تلقوا رعاية روتينية في المستشفى، من هنا تم قبول فرضيات البحث.<br/> |
