| Summary, etc. | Background: Prolonged smartphone use might cause continual neck <br/>flexion and probable changes in spinal posture, which can compromise <br/>pulmonary function and functional capacity. Purpose: This study aimed <br/>to investigate the effect of smartphone addiction on pulmonary function, <br/>functional capacity and head posture in school-age children. Methods: <br/>This observational cross-sectional study enrolled 56 school-age children <br/>aged 10–12 years from both sexes, with body mass index < 95th percentile. <br/>The children were assigned equally into groups; A and B, which involved <br/>non-addicted and addicted smartphone children, respectively. The <br/>smartphone addiction level of children in group B was > 32 on the <br/>Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short version. The pulmonary function <br/>[forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second <br/>(FEV1), FEV1/FVC ratio, maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV), and peak <br/>expiratory flow rate (PEF)], functional capacity, and forward head posture <br/>were assessed for all children by a computerized spirometer, 3-minute <br/>step test , Kinovea software, respectively. Results: The results showed <br/>that there was a significant increase in CVA, FVC, FEV1, PEF and MVV <br/>of group A compared with that of group B (p< 0.001) while there was no <br/>significant difference in FEV1/FVC between both groups (p> 0.05). In <br/>addition, there was a significant difference in functional capacity between <br/>both groups in favour of group A (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Smartphone <br/>addiction hurts pulmonary function, functional capacity and head posture <br/>in school-age children. |

| Summary, etc. | شارك في هذه الدراسه المقطعية ستة وخمسون طفلاً من كلا الجنسين. تراوحت أعمارهم بين 10-12 سنة وكان مؤشر كتلة الجسم الخاص بهم أقل من 95 في المئة. تم تقسيمهم إلى مجموعتين" أ" و "ب" والتي تضمنت أطفال غير مدمنين لإستخدام الهاتف الذكي وأطفال مدمنين لإستخدام الهاتف الذكي علي التوالي. وكان مستوى إدمان الهاتف الذكي لدي الأطفال في المجموعه "ب"> 32 على مقياس إدمان الهاتف الذكي - نسخة قصيرة. قيمت وظائف الرئة؛ (السعة الحيوية القسرية ، الزفير القسري في ثانية واحدة، النسبة بين السعة الحيوية القسرية والزفيرالقسري في ثانية واحدة ، التهوية الطوعية القصوى ومعدل ذروة تدفق الزفير)، والقدرة الوظيفية ووضعية الرأس الأمامية لكل الأطفال بواسطة مقياس التنفس المحوسب، وإختبار الخطوة لمدة 3 دقائق، وبرنامج كينوڤيا على التوالي. إدمان الهاتف الذكي له تأثير سلبي على وظيفة الرئة والقدرة الوظيفية ووضعية الرأس لدى الأطفال في سن المدرسة. |
