| Summary, etc. | Background: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is categorized within the systemic auto-inflammatory group of diseases. It can affect hearing by causing tissue injury.<br/>Objectives: Assessment of hearing in children with familial Mediterranean fever during attack and attack-free periods.<br/>Patients and methods: This case control study was conducted on 50 FMF patients who were diagnosed according to new pediatric criteria for FMF and compared to 50 healthy control group . patients were evaluated using Pure tone audiometry by experienced audiologist during both attack and attack free periods (at least two weeks free from symptoms of FMF). <br/>Results: The mean age of patients mean of 9.85 ± 2.82 years (52%) were females and the most common genetic mutation was E148Q (54%). the hearing threshold was significantly elevated among patients at the frequencies of 250, 500, 4000 and 8000 Hz at the right ear and at all frequencies, at the left ear compared to the control threshold readings. The hearing threshold was significantly elevated among patients at the time of attack at the frequencies of 250, 500 and 4000 Hz at the right ear and at frequencies of 250, 500, 2000, 4000 and 8000 Hz at the left ear compared to the thresholds at the attack-free time .<br/>Conclusion: The hearing threshold was significantly negatively affected among FMF patients and it was also more noticeable during the attack periods. |

| Summary, etc. | تعتبر حمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط من أكثر الأمراض الوراثية شيوعًا في العالم. وتتميز بنوبات متكررة قصيرة من التهابات الصفاق والتهابات الجنبة والتهابات المفاصل والطفح الجلدي مع الحمى. وهو مرض تدريجي يتميز بالتهاب مزمن، وله أيضًا آثار سلبية على وظائف القوقعة ومستويات السمع.<br/>أثناء الالتهاب تحت الاكلينيكي حتى خارج النوبات، تتأثر القوقعة بسبب الخلل الوظيفي البطاني الناجم عن الالتهاب المزمن وتيبس الشرايين حتى في المرحلة المبكرة وفي أولئك الذين لا يعانون من ترسب الأميلويد. ويؤثر هذا الخلل الوظيفي للقوقعة بصفة خاصة في تنمية المهارات اللغوية لدى الأطفال.<br/>كان الهدف من الدراسة تقييم السمع لدى الأطفال المصابين بحمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط خلال فترات النوبات والأوقات الخالية من النوبات.<br/>تم إجراء هذه الدراسة شاملة القطاعات على 50 مريضًا يعانون من حمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط العائلية خلال فترة النوبات وبعدها ومقارنتهم بـ 50 شخصًا سليماً في الفترة من مارس 2020 إلى أكنوبر 2022. تم تشخيص المرضى وفقًا لمعايير طب الأطفال الجديدة لحمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط والذين تتم متابعتهم في عيادة أمراض الروماتيزم، مستشفى الأطفال، جامعة القاهرة. |
