| Summary, etc. | Background: Juvenile Systemic lupus erythematosus (JSLE) is a worldwide multisystem autoimmune disease, Galectin-9 plays an important regulatory role in immunity and has been linked to autoimmune disease. <br/>Objectives: Assessment of the serum level of Galectin-9 in JSLE patients and relation of it with disease activity and damage index.<br/>Patients and methods: This case control study included 40 patients diagnosed with JSLE according to the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics and American College of Rheumatology Criteria and compared them to 40 age- and sex- matched control group. The study was conducted in Cairo University during the period from January 2022 to December 2022 where Galectin-9 was evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).<br/>Results: The mean ± SD age of patients was 11.11 ± 1.94 years and (95%) of them were females. Galectin-9 was significantly higher among patients 281.95 (158.7 – 686.8) pg/ml compared to 195.45 (124.4 – 278.3) pg/ml among the controls, p-value=0.009. The ROC curve of Galectin-9 revealed an AUC of 0.669, a sensitivity of 37.5%, a specificity of 100%, PPV of 100% and NPV of 61.5% at a cutoff of >4.35. <br/>Conclusion: Galectin-9 might be an efficient diagnostic marker for JSLE and it, yet it showed no significant correlation with disease activity and damage index. |

| Summary, etc. | تعتبر حمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط من أكثر الأمراض الوراثية شيوعًا في العالم. وتتميز بنوبات متكررة قصيرة من التهابات الصفاق والتهابات الجنبة والتهابات المفاصل والطفح الجلدي مع الحمى. وهو مرض تدريجي يتميز بالتهاب مزمن، وله أيضًا آثار سلبية على وظائف القوقعة ومستويات السمع.<br/>أثناء الالتهاب تحت الاكلينيكي حتى خارج النوبات، تتأثر القوقعة بسبب الخلل الوظيفي البطاني الناجم عن الالتهاب المزمن وتيبس الشرايين حتى في المرحلة المبكرة وفي أولئك الذين لا يعانون من ترسب الأميلويد. ويؤثر هذا الخلل الوظيفي للقوقعة بصفة خاصة في تنمية المهارات اللغوية لدى الأطفال.<br/>كان الهدف من الدراسة تقييم السمع لدى الأطفال المصابين بحمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط خلال فترات النوبات والأوقات الخالية من النوبات.<br/>تم إجراء هذه الدراسة شاملة القطاعات على 50 مريضًا يعانون من حمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط العائلية خلال فترة النوبات وبعدها ومقارنتهم بـ 50 شخصًا سليماً في الفترة من مارس 2020 إلى أكنوبر 2022. تم تشخيص المرضى وفقًا لمعايير طب الأطفال الجديدة لحمى البحر الأبيض المتوسط والذين تتم متابعتهم في عيادة أمراض الروماتيزم، مستشفى الأطفال، جامعة القاهرة. |
