| Summary, etc. | Background: Obesity is a multifactorial disease, associated with metabolic disorders and chronic low-grade inflammation. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become the most common cause of chronic liver disease in children, paralleling the increasing prevalence of obesity worldwide. Owing to the limitations of the liver biopsy and abdominal ultrasonography, the importance of screening and follow-up of NAFLD patients for hepatic steatosis and fibrosis increases, the noninvasive diagnostic methods are obviously needed. <br/>Aim of the work: The aim of the work was to evaluate the relationship between hs-CRP levels and BMI of obese children diagnosed with fatty liver.<br/>Patients and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 30 obese children with fatty liver diagnosed by the presence of bright liver in ultrasonography (cases group), attending hepatology clinic and obesity clinic, Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism Pediatric Unit (DEMPU), Cairo University Children’s Hospital from January 2023 to February 2024. Thirty age and sex-matched healthy non-obese children constituted the control group. Serum hs-CRP level was measured in all participants. <br/>Results: The hs-CRP had a higher mean in cases versus control groups (6.2 ± 3.04 versus 1.3 ± 0.6) mg/l with a statistically significant p-value of <0.001. In addition, the hs-CRP cut-off value of > 2.1 mg/l had a sensitivity of 93.3% and specificity of 93.3% in discriminating between both groups.<br/>Conclusion: Levels of hs-CRP is a useful, non-invasive for the detection of fatty liver in obese children. |

| Summary, etc. | ترتبط السمنة بحالة التهاب مزمن منخفض الدرجة، يتميز بزيادة بعض علامات الالتهاب مثل بروتين سى التفاعلي. ومن المفترض أن زيادة كمية الأنسجة الدهنية هي سبب التهاب أجهزة الجسم في حالات السمنة. <br/>ترتبط السمنة لدى الأطفال بالعديد من الأمراض المصاحبة، مثل داء السكري من النوع الثانى، وارتفاع ضغط الدم، وخلل شحميات الدم، ومرض تدهن الكبد غير الكحولي (NAFLD)، وانقطاع النفس الانسدادي أثناء النوم، ومتلازمة تكيس المبايض. <br/>ترتبط مستويات بروتين سى التفاعلي عالى الحساسية بشكل جيد مع معايير أخرى لمتلازمة التمثيل الغذائي المرتبطة بالسمنة (MS) ويمكن استخدامها كمؤشرات لمرض تدهن الكبد غير الكحولي.<br/>أجريت هذه الدراسة المستعرضة على ثلاثين طفلاً الذين يعانون من السمنة المفرطة ومرض تدهن الكبد و يرتادون عيادة أمراض الكبد وعيادة السمنة بمستشفى الأطفال بجامعة القاهرة وقد تم تشخيصهم عن طريق وجود زيادة فى حجم الكبد مع بعض اللمعان بالموجات فوق الصوتية (مجموعة الحالات) ومجموعة التحكم شكلت ثلاثين طفلا من الأطفال الأصحاء غير المصابين بالسمنة متطابقين في العمر والجنس.<br/>و قد هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تقييم العلاقة بين مستويات بروتين سى التفاعلي عالي الحساسية ومؤشر كتلة الجسم لدى الأطفال البدناء الذين تم تشخيص إصابتهم بمرض تدهن الكبد. و قد هدفت هذه الدراسة كذلك الى الكشف عن العلاقة بين مستويات بروتين سى التفاعلي عالي الحساسية و درجة التدهن الكبدي التي تم اكتشافها بواسطة الموجات فوق الصوتية لدى الأطفال البدناء.<br/>تم جمع البيانات التالية من المرضى (العمر، الجنس، مكان الإقامة، قرابة الوالدين، تضخم الطحال، حجم الكبد، الوزن، الطول ومؤشر كتلة الجسم). وتم إجراء اختبار بروتين سى التفاعلي عالي الحساسية، واختبارات وظائف الكبد والموجات فوق الصوتية للبطن. |
