| Summary, etc. | Background: Substantial efforts should be devoted to improving early and accurate diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients owing to its high incidence and mortality.<br/>Objectives: identification of the most common organism and antimicrobial profile of cases with VAP to improve the outcome of them.<br/>Patients and methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted on 116 neonates who were diagnosed with VAP from January 2022 to December 2022 and recruited from NICU of Children’s Hospital, Cairo University. Demographic data, medical history, microbiological results, complications and outcome were collected and analyzed .<br/>Results: VAP in our unit was mainly caused by gram-negative bacteria (93.9%), and the most common were MDR- Klebsiella (33.6%) followed by Pseudomonas (25%), Klebsiella (20.9%) and Acinetobacter (7.9%). MDR bacteria represented (45.8%) and the majority of them were also GNB. Both Klebsiella and Acinetobacter were associated with longer duration of respiratory support and high mortality rate (53.4%).<br/>Conclusion: Gram-negative bacteria were the main etiology of VAP and multidrug-resistant (MDR)-bacteria were detected in almost half the cases. |

| Summary, etc. | العزلات البكتيرية الشائعة المرتبطة بالالتهاب الرئوي المرتبط بجهاز التنفس الصناعي عند الولدان وخصائصها المضادة للميكروبات، دراسة استرجاعية في المستشفى الثالث المصري<br/>الخلفية: ينبغي تكريس جهود كبيرة لتحسين التشخيص المبكر والدقيق للالتهاب الرئوي المرتبط بجهاز التنفس الصناعي (VAP) في مرضى وحدة العناية المركزة لحديثي الولادة (NICU) بسبب ارتفاع معدل الإصابة والوفيات.<br/>الأهداف: تحديد الكائنات الحية الأكثر شيوعًا والملف المضاد للميكروبات لحالات VAP لتحسين نتائجها.<br/>المرضى والطرق: أجريت هذه الدراسة الأترابية بأثر رجعي على 116 حديثي الولادة الذين تم تشخيص إصابتهم بـ VAP في الفترة من يناير 2022 إلى ديسمبر 2022 وتم تجنيدهم من وحدة العناية المركزة لحديثي الولادة بمستشفى الأطفال بجامعة القاهرة. تم جمع وتحليل البيانات الديموغرافية والتاريخ الطبي والنتائج الميكروبيولوجية والمضاعفات والنتائج.<br/>النتائج: كان سبب VAP في وحدتنا بشكل رئيسي هو البكتيريا سالبة الجرام (93.9%)، والأكثر شيوعاً هي MDR- Klebsiella (33.6%) تليها الزائفة (25%)، Klebsiella (20.9%) والراكدة (7.9%). . تمثل بكتيريا MDR نسبة (45.8%) وكانت غالبيتها أيضًا من نوع GNB. ارتبط كل من الكليبسيلا والراكدة بمدة أطول لدعم الجهاز التنفسي وارتفاع معدل الوفيات (53.4٪).<br/>الاستنتاج: كانت البكتيريا سالبة الجرام هي المسببات الرئيسية لـ VAP وتم اكتشاف البكتيريا المقاومة للأدوية المتعددة (MDR) في نصف الحالات تقريبًا |
