Summary, etc. | This thesis emphasizes the importance of photonics in reducing tool sizes across applications. On-chip spectrometers remain a challenge, motivating our research. We designed a chip-scale spectrometer by studying optical filters and introducing diffraction grating structures to develop a Guided Mode Resonance Filter. We developed a 3-layer AR filter for NIR range scanning through electrostatic bias of Lithium Niobate. We created a mathematical model and a new metric to distinguish bacteria based on their Raman signature. Testing showed the spectrometer could distinguish various materials and bacteria, and we explored CMOS implementation to reduce costs |
