| Summary, etc. | Pneumonia is the acute inflammation of the lower respiratory tract and lung parenchyma. Although bacteria are the main pathogens involved in community-acquired pneumonia, a significant number of community-acquired pneumonia are caused by viruses, either directly or as part of a co-infection. Immunocompromised patients show a higher risk for respiratory infections<br/>The aim of this work is to study the frequency of viral bronchopneumonia in immunocompromised cancer patients, in addition to the frequency of which virus causes viral pneumonia, and correlate between the association between the viral bronchopneumonia and the different outcomes of infectious episode (e.g. complete cure without admission to ICU, admission to ICU, Ventilator and death due to respiratory failure). <br/>Participants and methods: 110 immunocompromized patients are included in this study. Detection of viral infections were determined by multiplex PCR. <br/>Results: Our study revealed that viral infection in immunocompromized patients is about 24% of the studied population and is associated with increased risk of ICU admission and mechanical ventilation (p=0.005, 0.004 respectively). <br/> |

| Summary, etc. | الإلتهاب الرئوي هو إلتهاب حاد في الجهاز التنفسي السفلي مما يؤدي إلى أعراض إكلينكية تتمثل في الحمى والسعال وضيق التنفس والشعور بالضيق. يمكن اكتساب هذه العدوى التنفسية الخطيرة في كل من البيئة المحيطة والمستشفيات.<br/> هناك عدد كبير من حالات الالتهاب الرئوي المكتسب من البيئة المحيطة سببها الفيروسات، إما بشكل مباشر أو كجزء من عدوى مصاحبة. على الرغم من أن الإلتهابات البكتيرية، كونها أكثر شيوعًا، قد تمت دراستها على نطاق أوسع، في المقابل، فإن البحث في الإالتهاب الرئوي الفيروسي المكتسب من البيئة المحيطة كان محدودًا ، على الرغم من أهميته الوبائية المتزايدة في البلدان النامية وفي عدد الأطفال<br/>يهدف هذا العمل إلي تحديد نسبة الإلتهاب الرئوي الفيروسي لدى مرضى السرطان منقوصي المناعة، بالإضافة إلى تحديد تكرار الفيروس الذي يسبب الإلتهاب الرئوي الفيروسي، وتحديد هل هناك إرتباط بين الإلتهاب الرئوي الفيروسي والنتائج المختلفة للحلقة المعدية (مثل الشفاء التام). دون الدخول إلى وحدة العناية المركزة، والدخول إلى وحدة العناية المركزة، وإستخدام جهاز التنفس الصناعي، والوفاة بسبب فشل الجهاز التنفسي).<br/> |
