| Summary, etc. | Background: Pregnancy related carpal tunnel syndrome (PRCTS) is the most frequent mononeuropathy during pregnancy that means compression neuropathy of the median nerve at the level of the wrist. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Bioptron light therapy (BLT) on PRCTS. Method: Sixty-two pregnant women with CTS were recruited and randomly assigned into two equal groups. Group (A) was treated with Bioptron light therapy for 10 minutes per session, 3 sessions per week, for 4 weeks and wore wrist brace in addition to advice and patient education. Group (B) was treated with the same program for group A excluding BLT. Assessment of all females were done before and after the treatment program through measuring pain intensity using visual analogue scale (VAS), symptoms severity using Boston symptoms severity scale (BSSS), functional capacity using Boston functional capacity scale (BFCS) and the nerve conduction studies (NCS) using electromyography. Results: There was a significant decrease in VAS, BSSS, BFCS, PSL, DML in both groups post treatment compared to pretreatment (p < 0.05), while there was a significant increase in SCV and MCV (p < 0.05). In post treatment comparison there was significant difference between both group in all measuring variables (p < 0.05) except at DML (p = 0.837) in favor to group A. Conclusion: Using BLT in the management of CTS during pregnancy has superior effect more than using wrist brace and advice only |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: متلازمة اختناق العصب الاوسط لرسغ اليد هي اعتلال العصب الأحادي وهوالأكثرشيوعًا أثناء الحمل ويعني ضغط العصب الاوسط على مستوى الرسغ. <br/>الهدف: الغرض من هذه الدراسة هو دراسة تأثير العلاج الضوئى بالبيوبترون على متلازمة اختناق العصب الاوسط لرسغ اليد اثناء الحمل. <br/>الطريقة: شاركت فى هذه الدراسة 62 امرأة حامل مصابة بمتلازمة اختناق العصب الاوسط لرسغ اليد وقد تم تقسيمهن عشوائياً إلى مجموعتين متساويتين في العدد. المجموعة (أ) ضمت 31 سيدة تم علاجهن بالعلاج الضوئى بالبيوبترون لمدة 10 دقائق لكل جلسة، 3 جلسات أسبوعياً، لمدة 4 أسابيع وارتدين دعامة للمعصم بالإضافة إلى اتباع النصائح. المجموعة (ب) ايضا ارتدين دعامة المعصم بالاضافة الى اتباع النصائح فقط. تم تقييم جميع السيدات قبل البرنامج العلاجي وكذلك بعد 4 أسابيع من العلاج من خلال قياس شدة الالم باستخدام مقياس النظير البصرى وقياس شدة الاعراض والعجز الوظيفى باستخدام استبيان بوسطن لمتلازمة النفق الرسغى والتخطيط الكهربى لقياس سرعة التوصيل الحركى وسرعة التوصيل الحسى وزمن قمة التأخر الحسى وزمن التأخر الحركى . <br/>النتائج : كان هناك تحسن ذو دلالة احصائية فى كلا من شدة الألم ،شدة الأعراض،العجز الوظيفى وكذلك زمن التأخر الحسى والحركي بعد العلاج مقارنة بما قبل العلاجفى كلا المجموعتين (القيمة المحتملة < 0.05) . بينما كان هناك زيادة ذات دلالة احصائية فى سرعة التوصيل الحسى والحركى فى المجموعة (أ) فقط ،وبمقارنة النتائج بعد العلاج وجد فرق ذو دلالة احصائية بين المجموعتين فى كل المتغيرات (القيمة المحتملة <0.05) ما عدا زمن التأخر الحركى (القيمة المحتملة = 0.837) وذلك لصالح المجموعة (أ) |
