| Summary, etc. | Sepsis is the leading cause of death in patients admitted in intensive care units (ICUs) (Jacobi, 2002). Hepatic, dysfunction represents a common manifestation during the sepsis process, ranging from a mild elevation of serum bilirubin and / or liver enzymes to severe hepatic failure (Vermillion et al., 1999).
