| Summary, etc. | Backgound: Obesity is a worldwide epidemic and affects 35% of the adult population and about 15% of the pediatric population. Life style modification and patient education are important components of any weight management program, but have failed to demonstrate sustainable weight loss. Bariatric surgery, on the other hand, has been performed with successful weight loss for over 20 years in adults. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) has gained popularity in recent years for use in adults. It has also become an option for obese children with fewer perioperative and long-term complications. In addition, LSG does not alter the small bowel anatomy or include the use of a foreign body. Thus, we have adopted its use primarily as our pediatric weight loss surgery. AIM: Assessment of early outcome of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in pediatric patients Results: After 3 months of follow-up for 2 cases, 6 months of follow up for 5 case, 12 months of follow up for 5 case, and 24 months of follow up for 3 cases. There were WL ranged from 4 to 78 Kg. All of the patients co-morbidities improved postoperatively such as pre-diabetes, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, joint pain and psychic problems. Conclusio: We concluded that LSG is a safe, feasible and effective procedure that can result in meaningful weight loss in pediatric obese patients |
