| Summary, etc. | This study was conducted to investigate the effect of preoperative physical therapy modalities on diaphragmatic strength after upper abdominal surgeries. Forty five patients (21 males and 24 females) undergoing upper abdominal surgery with ages ranged from 25 - 45 years were selected randomly and divided into three equal groups in number each group contains 15 patients. Patients in group (A): managed with preoperative incentive spirometer training in addition to preoperative traditional chest physical therapy intervention (Deep breath, cough training) while patients in group (B): received preoperative inspiratory muscle trainer in addition to preoperative traditional chest physical therapy intervention. Patients in group (C): received only preoperative traditional chest physical therapy intervention. Six sessions per week for 3 weeks. All patients were assessed as following: 3 weeks before surgery (preoperative- pretraining) then after end of training program (immediate preoperative and post-training) and first day after operation (postoperative) to measure maximal inspiratory pressure MIP using respiratory pressure meter RPM |
