Summary, etc. The present thesis is mainly concerned with the study of structural changes and possible structural transitions that takes place during the plastic deformation, annealing, and quenching processes in intermetallic compound Fe₅₀ Ni₅₀ alloy. Changes in some magnetic properties such as maximum magnetic permeability, critical magnetic field and magnetic anisotropy measured by the cathode ray method were adopted as structure sensitive physical properties used to trace changes in the atomic microstructure during structural transitions in the test alloy. The first chapter of this thesis includes a general brief review on the main theory of magnetization process in ferromagnetic materials. A brief account was given on the effect of order-disorder transition in the binary alloy Fe-Ni on the reversible and irreversible displacement during the magnetization process in ferromagnetic alloy. Also, a general review on previous work on the nature of order-disorder Transition in Fe-Ni intermetallic compound was given in the first chapter. The second chapter deals with experimental details and the cathode ray oscilloscope method used in the present work to measure the different magnetic properties of Fe₅₀ Ni₅₀ alloy. In chapter three, the effect of structural changes induced by plastic deformation on the magnetic properties of annealed Fe Ni alloy was studied. The domain wall surface energy (Þ) , the thickness of the magnetic domain (e), and the exchange energy (A) of the present alloy was determined from a simple measurement of the magnetic permeability and magnetic anisotropy. For pre- annealed sample the observed decrease in the critical magnetic field and the increase in the maximum magnetic permeability during the early stage of plastic deformation were attributed to the precipitation of Fe₅₀ Ni₅₀ phase during 3 annealing. In chapter four, part A, investigated the behavior of structural changes during recovery of crystal defects in plastically deformed Fe₅₀ Ni₅₀ alloy by magnetic measurements
