Summary, etc. |
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and maternal obesity are independently associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. This study aim is to show the effect of increased body mass index on maternal, fetal and neonatal outcome in pregnant women with gestational diabetes. Methods: One hundred (100) pregnant women with gestational diabetes were included in the study. They were divided into 2 groups: Group A for Normal weight (BMI = 18.5 {u2013} 24.9 kg/m2) and group B for overweight (BMI = 25 {u2013} 29.9 kg/m2) and obese (BMI = 30 {u2013} 40 kg/m2). The two groups were compared regarding the incidence of pregnancy induced hypertension, cesarean delivery, IUGR, Intrauterine fetal death, macrosomia, congenital malformations, Apgar score at 1 minute, neonatal admission to neonatal ICU, neonatal hypoglycemia. Results: This study showed that in the group of overweight and obese pregnant women with gestational diabetes , there is increased the incidence of: pregnancy induced hypertension, cesarean delivery, intrauterine fetal death, macrosomia, congenital malformations, admission to neonatal ICU, neonatal hypoglycemia. While there is less IUGR and less mean Apgar sore at 1 minute. However these results were statistically insignificant. Conclusion: The presence of maternal obesity has its effect on the maternal, fetal and neonatal outcomes |
