Summary, etc. |
Five grapevine cultivars (vitis vinifera) namely; flame seedless, superior, early sweet, crimson seedless and thomson seedless were grafted onto four rootstocks namely; freedom (vitis champini x 1613C), salt creek (vitis champini), paulsen 1103 (Vitis berlandieri x Vitis rupestris) and 110 richter (vitis berlandieri x vitis rupestris). The experiment was conducted for two successive seasons (2015 and 2016) at the nursery and laboratory of pomology department, Faculty of agriculture, Cairo university to study their grafting compatibility after nine months and compatibility constant after nineteen months of grafting. This was measured by assessing the following: Graft survival percentages, callus degree at graft union and rooting degree, total phenols content, peroxidase activity and isoperoxidase pattern. Paulsen rootstock gave the highest graft survival percentages, callus degree at graft union and rooting degree with all studied cultivars, which accompained with the lowest phenol content and peroxidase activity above, below and at graft union zone. Moreover, paulsen rootstock possessed the highest similarity representing 0.857 similarities with all cultivars studied. Meanwhile, salt creek rootstock achieved the lowest grafting survival percentage, callus degree at the graft union and rooting degree which accompanied with the highest total phenols and peroxidase activity. Early sweet grafted onto Freedom rootstock recorded the lowest graft survival percentage and the highest total phenols, peroxidase activity above, and at graft union zone in both experiments |
