Spiders are known to occupy nearly every terrestrial habitat. Spider individuals collected during 2010 to 2011, nineteen families represented by 23 genera and 17 species were recorded. Distribution and occurrence of spider associated with some fruit orchards (Mango, Citrus, Grapes and Peach) at El-Sadat City, Menoufiya governorate were studied. The largest numbers of species were belonging to the following families: Salticidae; Theridiidae; Araneidae; Gnaphosidae; Thomisidae; Philodromidae and Oecobiidae but some families recorded with one species: Eutichuridae, Hersiliidae, Linyphiidae and Uloboridae; some samples identified to genus level, Lycosidae; while others identified to family level only such as: Agelenidae, Dictynidae, Eresidae, Filistatidae, Oxyopidae, Scytodidae and Pholcidae. Distribution and occurrence of spiders associated with four fruit trees at El Sadat City, Menoufiya Governorate were recorded. Fifteen families, 12 genera and nine species were collected from mango trees. Sixteen families, 15 genera and 13 species were recorded from citrus trees. Nineteen families, 19 genera and 13 species were recorded from grape and eighteen families, 20 genera and thirteen species were recorded from peach. Biological studied to the common spider species, Uloborus walckenaerius, Latreille (Araneae: Uloboridae) was also studied. Hatching larvae and the first larval stage of the cotton leaf warm, Spodoptera littoralis Boised were used as prey |
