520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Be (II) was extracted from its ore as a beryl mineral and then leached as a sulfate liquor. Ordered meso-porous silica nanoparticles (MCM-41) and electrospun microporous silica nanofibers (SNF) were prepared as a matrix for beryllium uptake. Chitosan nanoparticles (Ch NPs) and nanocomposites with MCM-41 have been synthesized and their physical and surface properties were studied. Beryllium uptake efficiency using these novel materials was studied under different pH values, contact times, initial Be (II) concentrations and adsorbent doses. The maximum achieved uptake efficiencies were 45.8 and 92.7 for MCM-41 and SNF respectively and 95% and 96% for the nanocomposites which were superior to MCM-41 and higher than that of Ch NPs (90%)
