| Summary, etc. | Introduction: Despite the increasing interest in the study of the risk of radiation-induced secondary cancer in pediatric patients, the available studies are confined to either limited number of patients and/or genders or utilize only a single risk estimation approach. The aim of this study is to estimate the risk of radiation-induced secondary cancer in Craniospinal (CSI) pediatric patients treated routinely using 3-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy (3D-CRT) for different ages and genders using three different risk estimation parameters. The study also aims at comparing the risk of secondary cancer for a selected sample treated using both 3D-CRT and Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT). Methods: Sixty CSI pediatric patients are divided into 6 groups, 3 groups containing 30 males of ages of 5, 10 and 15 years and 3 groups containing 30 females of the same ages. The risk of radiation-induced secondary cancer for those patients due to 3D-CRT is estimated by calculating 3 risk estimation parameters: Excess Relative Risk (ERR), Excess Absolute Risk (EAR) and Lifetime Attributable Risk (LAR). The risk of radiation-induced secondary cancer due to 3D-CRT is compared to that due to IMRT for a selected sample of patients (10 CSI pediatric male patients at the age of 10 years) |
