Summary, etc. |
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a recent therapeutic option that showed promising results in treatment of different types of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers (NMSCs) and is sometimes considered the treatment of choice in certain cases. PDT is based on using topical photosensitizer followed by broad-spectrum red radiation to induce necrosis of tumor cell by different mechanisms. Topical PDT is currently mainly used to treat superficial NMSCs in an increasing number of countries. Several guidelines have been published in the last two decades reporting the efficacy of PDT in treating NMSC. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the efficacy of MB-PDT in the treatment of NMSC affected Egyptian patients through a prospective clinical trial with a twenty four months follow-up duration. Thirty three patients were enrolled in the study, twenty of them were suffering from nodular or ulcerative BCCs, eight from AK and five from BD, all patients were diagnosed clinically and confirmed histopathologically. All patients were diagnosed clinically and confirmed histopathologically and it took place during 2012-2016. Patients were selected from the outpatient clinics at The National Institute of Laser enhanced sciences and Cairo hospital for dermatology and venereology (Al-Haud Almarsoud). Twenty seven completed the study, 17 suffering from BCC, 6 from AK and 4 from BD. and the others dropped due to various causes |
