| Summary, etc. | Polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) with waste cotton fabric using a ferrous cellulose thiocarbonate{u2013}hydrogen peroxide redox system as a coinitiator was first investigated under different conditions. These include the polymerization time, temperature, liquor ratio, pH and concentrations of the initiator and monomer. The product cellulose-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) graft copolymer (Cell-g-PGMA)- produced at best polymerization conditions- was then functionalized with four different amines, namely, tri-ethyl-amine hydrochloride (TEAC), diethylene-tri-amine (DETA), tri-ethylene-tetra-amine (TETA), aiming to obtain a low-cost adsorbent for dye removal from wastewater. Factors affecting the aminization reaction, specifically the reaction time, temperature, liquor ratio, pH, and aminating agent/epoxy molar ratio, were also studied. The prepared amino-functionalized cellulose-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) graft copolymer (AM-Cell-g-PGMA) was further analyzed for epoxy and nitrogen content, and also characterized by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and surface area measurement based on Brunauer{u2013} Emmett{u2013}Teller (BET) and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) theories. The adsorption of two dyes (C.I. Acid black 194 and C.I Reactive black 5) onto the prepared anion exchangers was then investigated at different conditions such as adsorption time, pH, temperature and initial dye concentration, at different temperature values.
