Summary, etc. Using Folic acid (FA), also named vitamin B9, in treating skin photoaging seems promising as it plays a role in cell replication, regulation of gene activity and renewal of skin. FA is available in natural and synthetic forms. FA is an antioxidant so stops and protects from excessive radiation. It is of importance in rapidly dividing cells. The photoaging results from excessive exposure to UV- irradiation which in turn results in excessive oxidation. Treatment of cultured dermal fibroblasts with folic acid stimulated cellular DNA repair capacity, indicating that this essential vitamin may offer a treatment option for photo-aged skin. Bearing hydrophobic character, the upper layer of the skin and the stratum corneum would be amended by FA in personal care and cosmetic products. Folic acid belongs to a group of highly effective actives that elicits a variety of beneficial actions on human skin. Folic acid is firstly suggested as a cosmetic ingredient in patents of a topical cream in the nineties and later on. Additionally it was presented by debowska et al as a study on human cell lines in 2005. Also, it was included in multi herbal cream in 2013 to work synergistically with other herbs to soothe, moisturize, heal, and regenerate skin. That cream also provided anti-wrinkle and sunscreen effect. The discovery of the link between insufficient folic acid intake and the incidence of neural tube defects emphasizes that an adequate folate status is essential to guarantee normal development and growth. With regard to the skin, it was published earlier that human dermal fibroblasts increase their intracellular folate levels when exposed to UV irradiation provided that sufficient amounts of folic acid are supplied externally
