| Summary, etc. | Introduction: Since rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease affects about 0.5 and 1% of adults in the developed world and sexuality is an important part of human quality of life, as it is one of those responsible for our individual welfare, study the association between them is important. Aim: To determine the possible different risk factors for sexual dysfunction(SD) in RA and study the frequency of SD among RA patients Methods: This is a case -control study carried on 302 participant (60 males and 242 females) according to the prevalence ratio of the disease , aged between 18-45 years- attending Family Medicine and Rheumatology clinic in Kasr alainy, Cairo University, Egypt. All participants were evaluated for socio demographic characters, medical data regarding disease duration, complication, drugs used, sexual dysfunction, psychological state, disease activity, quality of life and males were tested for free and total testosterone. Results: Both groups were matched regarding all socio demographic domains.There was statistically significant difference between both groups regarding PHQ9 (p value<.005) There was statistically significant difference between both groups regarding sexual dysfunction (73.7%of females with RA had sexual dysfunction, Mean total IIEF score in cases was 42.73± 25.65 versus 61.2 ±14.41 in control group)).There was statistically significant difference between both male groups regarding Free and Total testosterone(43.3% of cases have low serum level while in control group only 6.7% had low lever) and there was highly statistically significant relation between sexual dysfunction and serum testosterone level, depression, disease severity, disease caused disability and drugs used, logistic regression of the associated risk factors showed that only depression was the significant risk factor and after controlling its effect ,no risk factors was detected to affect SD |
