520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The efficient use of health care resources plays a key role in enhancing the country{u2019}s capability to meet the rapid growth in health care demand, attain better health outcomes, expand health care coverage and increase confidence in the health care system. Achieving efficiency in health care systems is of particular importance to middle-income countries in light of their limited financing sources and high dependency on out-of-pocket expenditure in addition to their continuous efforts to achieve universal health coverage and financial protection and Egypt is not an exception. Accordingly, this study evaluated the technical efficiency of the Egyptian health care system relative to 20 selected middle-income countries over the period (2000-2018) through employing the generalized true random effects model. Based on the results of the employed model, it was reached that Vietnam, China and Mexico are the most efficient countries and that the main source of technical inefficiency in Egypt and the selected countries is the persistent inefficiency which is related to the structure of the health care system and not the transient inefficiency that is related to the institutions{u2019} performance. Hence, the heath care systems of the most efficient countries (Vietnam, China and Mexico) in addition to Egypt were explored in order to drive key lessons for the Egyptian health care system to enhance its performance. It was concluded that decentralization, cooperation among the public and private sectors, universal health coverage, strong primary health care system, continuous monitoring and evaluation of the outcomes of the adopted policies, integration of the health care system, qualified physical and human resources and health information technology are of great necessity to enhance the performance of the Egyptian health care system
