Summary, etc. Introduction: Plasma transfusions are frequently prescribed for critically ill children, although their indications lack a strong evidence base. Plasma transfusions are largely driven by physician conceptions of need, and these are poorly documented in pediatric intensive care units. Aim of work: To determine patient characteristics and to prescribe indications for plasma transfusion in critically ill children, and to evaluate the effect of plasma transfusions on coagulation tests. Patients and methods: This was an observational study for 9 months of critical ill children in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) who received plasma of Abu El-Reesh Hospital, Cairo University. Full history, examination and investigations were obtained from files in addition to bleeding profile before and after plasma transfusions. Results: our study revealed that 83.3% of critically ill children who received plasma transfusion had coagulation disorders, and 6.7% had family history of any transfusion. Most of critically ill children had received plasma transfusion for moderate illness (30.0%) followed by critical illness (23.3%), hypoalbuminemia (22.8%). The mean of number of plasma transfusion in the study group was 2.51±1.75, the mean of transfusion volume was 14.19±2.25 ml/kg, and the mean of time interval between time of admission and 1st transfusion was 3.24±3.49 days. Most of the included children who received plasma transfusion survived 61.1% and only 38.9% died
