Summary, etc. |
In Summary, supracondylar fractures of the humerus are the most common type of elbow fracture in children, accounting more than 80% of all fractures.Posterior displacement suggests a hyper extension injury, usually fall on out stretched hand. While anterior displacement, rare type, usually due to direct violence with the joint in flexion. In our study we compared supine versus prone position in management of supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children. All fractures, regardless the degree of instability, were treated successfully either supine or prone position. The standard treatment for displaced Gartland type III extension type supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children is closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation, In our study we used 2 lateral pins in most cases to avoid iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury We used medial and lateral pins in some cases with fracture unstable radiologically on 2 lateral pins But, as controversy among some authors regarding optimal positioning of patient |
