| Summary, etc. | Background: An adaptive seating system (ASS) is a basic rehabilitation need for children and youth with cerebral palsy as it preserves their skeletal integrity and impacts their activities and participation in different educational, social and life situations.This study aims at highlighting the prevalence of children with CP in need for Adaptive seating systems.Methods: A total of 239 subjects were recruited from13 physical therapy centresacross Egypt. 193 (107 males, 86 females)of them fulfilled the inclusion criteria. We initially confirmed they had CP using the criteria of the decision tree of the surveillance of cerebral palsy of Europe (SCPE), then we assessed their need for an ASS using the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) which determines their functional ability and the Level of Sitting Scale (LSS) which determines their sitting ability.Results: We found that 44% of the whole study sample needed an ASS since they fulfilled the 2 conditions, which were having a Gross Motor Function Classification System level IV or V and aLevel of Sitting Scale level 1 to 5.InGreat Cairo, Northern Egypt, and Upper Egypt groups the percentages were 46%, 43% and 41% respectively. Conclusion: The big percentage found in need for ASS among the study sample suggests that the provision of adaptive seating systemsmay benefit a big number of individuals with CP |
