In this work an intrusion detection system (IDS) that adopts the concept of network based intrusion detection system (NIDS) methodolgy is proposed the proposed system adopts a lightweight statistical anomaly based approach which uses model based clustering (MBC) concept and finite mixture Model (FMM) approach to characterize and nodel network normal acivities in an attempt to build a baseline profile of network normal behavior
