Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Engineering - Department Of Biomedical Engineering Summary: Ultrasound imaging of the soft organs in the body is based on receiving the signal reflected from the organ surface as a result for the different mechanical properties of the different body organsHowever , the problem is that the presence of speckle noise and the weakness of the received signal cause a reduction of lesion detectability of approximately a factor of eightSo , it is necessary to reduce this noise before any further study of the received signalIn this thesis , we studied the statistical properties of this noise , reviewed the methods in literature for its reduction and suggested new methods for speckle reduction based on weighted nonlinear diffusion , neural networks and fuzzy logic
