Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Science - Department Of Biochemistry Summary: Osteoporosis is defined as reduction of bone mass or density or the presence of fragility fractureThis reduction in bone tissue is accompanied by deterioration in the architecture of the skeleton , leading to a markedly increased risk of fractureBone mass increase during growth to reach a peak between age of 25 and 35 and falls there after in both sexesThe presence study was conducted on 80 subject classified into four groups according to the duration of menopause all subject will be exposed to ; clinical examination , bone mineral density measurement and biochemical assays including interleukin - 6 and osteocalcinThere is recent evidence that the protection effect of estrogen on the skeleton may also be important in older postmenopausal womenA direct effect of estrogen on bone cells function may be involved as well as and indirect effect on extraskeletal calcium homeostasisEstrogen deficiency dramatically alters the dependency of bone cells on several cytokines including IL - 6 , IL - 1 and INFInterleukin - 6 is a cytokine , Produced by many different cell type including Immune cells and adipose tissue that mediates inflammatory responseUnlike other cytokines interleukin - 6 is unusual in that its major effect takes place at sites distant from its origin and are consequent upon its circulation concentrationWe conclude that interleukin - 6 appears to be a potent osteotropic factor that may play an important role in prediction
