This work was carried out to prepare and investigate some novel non - polluting antifouling coatingsGraft copolymerization technique was used to prepare different acrylic copolymersMethyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid grafted onto poly (vinyl chloride) as well as soya oil alkyd resinButyl acrylate and methacrylic acid grafted onto chlorinated rubberThe grafted copolymers were incorporated in non - polluting antifouling coatingsBenzalkonium chloride (alkyldimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride) and Parmetol PF95 (benzimidazol derivative) were used as non - toxic biocidesThe non - polluting antifouling coatings were evaluated at different natural sitesAfter one year immersion in the Red Sea , it was found that the grafted copolymers onto chlorinated rubber and poly (vinyl chloride) have more erosion and fouling resistance than linear copolymers
