Spiroplasma kunkelii was isolated from leaves and grains of naturally infected corn (Zea mays L.) plants cv. Cairo 1 , showing typical symptoms of corn stunt disease during growing seasons 2003 and 2004 examination of the liquid cultures on C-3G medium by phase contrast and dark field light microscope revealed that S. kunkelii is a helical motile and unicellular
