Dupuytren's disease has been known for centuriesThe pathology is well recognized in the palmar fascia , but the disease aetiology is notThere is a strong genetic predisposition and it may be inherited as an autosomal dominant conditionThere are many predisposing factors such as excess alcohol , smoking , diabetes mellitus and epilepsyThe patient is known to be a middle aged man of Northern European extraction , complaining of nodule in the palm then contracture develops affecting the fingersThe most effective treatment nowadays is surgicalThere are many types of operations such as fasciotomy , fasciectomy (partial or complete) , fasciectomy with skin graft and finally salvage operations (egamputation) Surgery may be followed by many complications as digital nerve or artery injury , infection , haematoma , skin necrosis , joint stiffness and recurrence of the contracure
