تهدف الدراسة إلى: 1) استخلاص المعايير التي يمكن الاحتكام إليها في تحديد الفجوة المنهجية، 2) رصد الفجوات المنهجية في المحاولات التطبيقية لصناعة المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية، 3) استدراك بعض الفجوات المنهجية من خلال تطبيق منهج توليدي للصيغ اللغوية التي تمثل المداخل المحتمل تحريرها.
وقد جاءت الدراسة في مقدمة، وتمهيد، وخمسة فصول، وخاتمة؛ أما المقدمة فتوضح هدف الدراسة، وأهميتها، والأسئلة البحثية التي تقوم عليها الدراسة، وأما التمهيد فتناول: قضية التخطيط اللغوي. وأما الفصل الأول فيبين مفهوم الفجوة المنهجية في الصناعة المعجمية، والمعايير التي يُحتكم إليها في الحكم على الفجوة المنهجية. وأما الفصل الثاني فيرصد الفجوات المنهجية في صناعة المعجم التاريخي من خلال الترتيب الخارجي والداخلي للمادة المعجمية، وللمداخل. وأما الفصل الثالث فجاء في تعقب الدلالة التاريخية للمداخل في تحرير المعجم التاريخي، وأما الفصل الرابع فيعالج الاستشهاد في ضوء العصور التاريخية. واختُتمت هذه الدراسة بفصل خامس؛ تطبيقي يتناول نظرية حصر الجذور، ورسم خريطة الجذور من خلال المقارنة بين عدد المداخل في المعاجم الثلاثة (المعجم الكبيرــــــ معجم الدوحة التاريخي ــ المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية). ثم جاءت الخاتمة مشتملة على أهم النتائج. يتبعها ثبْت بالمصادر والمراجع، والملاحق الفنية.

The aim of the study is to: 1) extract the criteria that can be invoked in determining the methodological gap, 2) monitor the methodological gaps in the applied attempts to manufacture the historical dictionary of the Arabic language, 3) rectify some methodological gaps through the application of a generative approach to the linguistic formulas that represent the possible entries for editing.
The study came in an introduction, a preface, five chapters, and a conclusion. As for the introduction, it explains the aim of the study, its importance, and the research questions on which the study is based. As for the entrance chapter, it contains: the issue of linguistic planning. As for the first chapter, it shows the concept of the methodological gap in the lexical industry, and the criteria that are used in judging the methodological gap. As for the second chapter, it monitors the methodological gaps in the manufacture of the historical dictionary through the external arrangement and the internal arrangement of the lexical material, and the entries. As for the third chapter, it follows the historical significance of the entries in the editing of the historical dictionary. As for the fourth fifth chapter, it deals with martyrdom in the light of historical eras. As for the fifth chapter, an applied chapter dealing with the theory of concentrating roots, and mapping the roots by comparing the number of entries in the three dictionaries (the Great Dictionary, the Doha Historical Dictionary, the historical dictionary of the Arabic language), Then the conclusion came, including the most important results. Finally, document the sources, references, and technical appendices
