Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D)-Cairo University, 2023. Summary: The present work discusses the synthesis, geochemical and mineralogical characterization as well as some industrial implementation of zeolites synthesized from some kaolinitic clay resources in Sinai which are hosted in thick sandstone sequences belonging to the Lower Cretaceous Malha Formation.as well as zeolites synthesized from smectitic clay resource in South El-Hammam area which are hosted in thick sandstone sequences belonging to the Lower Miocene Moghra Formation. Several methods were used to synthesize zeolites, from kaolinitic clay samples and from smectitic clay samples in order to obtain zeolitic products with high purity and competitive price. Mineralogical and geochemical characterization of the synthesized zeolites were conducted using various techniques including; X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), cation exchange capacity (CEC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and have also been examined by thermo-analytical methods (TGA and DTA). Based on the studied characterization of zeolites synthesized from smectitic clay and kaolinitic clay, along with comparing these zeolites to the ideal zeolites used in the following industries to determine which of the synthesized zeolites can be used as adsorbents of H2S to purify wastewater streams and fuel gases, which can be used in the removal of Cs+, Sr2+and Co2+ ions from the mixture of organic and suspended solids aqueous solutions.

The present work discusses the synthesis, geochemical and mineralogical characterization as
well as some industrial implementation of zeolites synthesized from some kaolinitic clay
resources in Sinai which are hosted in thick sandstone sequences belonging to the Lower
Cretaceous Malha Formation.as well as zeolites synthesized from smectitic clay resource in
South El-Hammam area which are hosted in thick sandstone sequences belonging to the Lower
Miocene Moghra Formation.
Several methods were used to synthesize zeolites, from kaolinitic clay samples and from
smectitic clay samples in order to obtain zeolitic products with high purity and competitive price.
Mineralogical and geochemical characterization of the synthesized zeolites were conducted using
various techniques including; X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence spectrometer (XRF),
cation exchange capacity (CEC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and have also been
examined by thermo-analytical methods (TGA and DTA). Based on the studied characterization
of zeolites synthesized from smectitic clay and kaolinitic clay, along with comparing these
zeolites to the ideal zeolites used in the following industries to determine which of the
synthesized zeolites can be used as adsorbents of H2S to purify wastewater streams and fuel
gases, which can be used in the removal of Cs+, Sr2+and Co2+ ions from the mixture of organic
and suspended solids aqueous solutions.
