Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.)-Cairo University,2022. Summary: Objective: To assess the reliability of salivary C-reactive protein, mean platelet volume, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet lymphocyte ratio in the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. Methods: Prospective case-control study of 80 full-term neonates, 40 with sepsis and 40 healthy controls. Serum and salivary C-reactive protein concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay while mean platelet volume, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet lymphocyte ratio were from the CBC sample which is analyzed by Sysmex XN 1000. Results: This study showed Mean (SD) serum CRP was higher in case group 46.12 (32.27) mg/L than control group 2.43 (1.03) mg/L with highly statistically significant difference between them, regarding salivary CRP it also showing highly statistically significant difference as higher values was found in case group 2.79 (1.20) mg/L and 1.41(0.78) mg/L for control group, Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) was highly statistically significant higher in case group 9.52 (0.94) fl than 7.85(0.49) fl for control group, in the same line, Neutrophil Lymphocytic Ratio ”NLR” was = statistically significant higher in case group 2.58 (2.61) fl than 1.5 (0.68) fl for control group.
