اتجهت الأطروحة نحو دراسة الحضور المهيمن للشخصية الروائية الغائية بوصفها ظاهرة سردية إشكالية؛ وذلك لما تشمل عليه من خصائص تبدو متناقضة، ولأنها تُشكِّلُ في ذهن متلقيها نوعًا من الصراع الذي يمثله طرفان؛ أحدهما غائب على الرغم من حضوره، والآخر حاضر على الرغم من غيابه، والطرف الغائب يتأسَّسُ حضوره على ما يمارسه من هيمنة على الشخصيات الحاضرة؛ هذه الهيمنة تتجلى في ذكرياتها، وتصوراتها عن حاضرها، وعن ماضيها، فضلًا عما يمارسه من هيمنة على مصائرها في مستقبلها، إنه قابع في الحلم، تماما كما هو مستكن في الذاكرة. وطبقت الدراسة آليات وإجراءات المنهج السيميوطيقي على نماذج روائية مختارة لثلاثة من الكتاب العرب، هم: نجيب محفوظ في رواية الطريق، جمال الغيطاني في رواية التجليات، والطيب صالح في رواية بندر شاه ضو البيت وبندر شاه مريود.

This thesis sought to study the dominant presence of the absent fictional
character as a problematic narrative phenomenon, because of its seemingly
contradictory characteristics, and because it constitutes in the mind of its
recipient a kind of conflict represented by two parties, one of which is
absent despite his presence, and the other is present despite his absence,
and the absent party whose presence is based on the domination it exercises
over the present characters. Her future, it is in the dream, just as it is in
memory. The study applied the mechanisms and procedures of the semiotic
approach to the novelistic models of three Arab writers: Naguib Mahfouz
in the novel The Road, Jamal Al-Ghitani in the novel Al-Tajaliyat, Al-
Tayeb Saleh in the novel Bandar Shah Daw Al-Bayt and Bandar Shah
Marioud.
