تناول البحث أنطاكيه في العصر البيزنطي الباكر في ضوء كتابات المؤرخ ليبانيوس وذلك من خلال عدة محاور رئيسية أهمها نشأة المؤرخ ليبانيوس ودوره كمؤرخ معاصر لتلك الفترة تحديدا القرن الرابع الميلادي.
يوضح ليبانيوس من خلال خطاباته واعتزازه بمدينته الأم أنطاكيه كيف كان الوضع السياسي داخل المدينة يختلف باختلاف الأباطرة وأيضا نقل لنا ليبانيوس صورة عن الوضع الديني في أنطاكيه والصراع بين المسيحية والوثنية وماهيه الحياة الاجتماعية داخل أنطاكيه وأنماطها خاصه من خلال عمله كمدرس للبلاغة، أيضا وضح لنا طبيعة الحياه الاقتصادية وازدهارها ومكانة أنطاكيه التجارية والصناعية وذلك الوقت كمدينه بارزة داخل الإمبراطورية البيزنطية.

The research dealt with the " Antioch in the early Byzantine period in the light of the writings of historian Libanius", through several main axes, the most important of which is the establishment of the historian Libanius and his role as a contemporary historian for that period, specifically the fourth century A.D, the emperors and also despite his paganism, he conveyed to us a picture of the religious situation in Antioch and the conflict between Christianity and paganism Libanius also conveyed to us what social life was in Antioch in particular through his work as teacher of Antioch, he also explained to us the nature of economic life and its prosperity and the commenical and industrial position of Antioch at that time as a prominent city with in Byzantine empire.
