أرسى الإسلام قواعد القيم والأخلاق في معاهدات الصلح مع غير المسلمين لضمان السلم ونشر الأمن لإرساء نوع من الصداقة والود وحسن الجوار وبث قيم التسامح والتعايش مع الآخر دون إكراه في الدين هذا ما أسس له الرسول  في العهد النبوي بل امتدت هذه الأخلاق إلى الحرب حيث شرَّع قيمًا تقتضي عدم قتل غير المقاتل من النساء والأطفال والشيوخ والعجزة، وامتدت هذه القيم إلى ما بعد الحرب مع الأسرى من إطعامهم وكسوتهم وعلاجهم وغير ذلك من القيم.
وفي ظل هذه الظروف حافظ الإسلام في عصور فترة الدراسة على دور العبادة لغير المسلمين مع احترام عقائدهم وترك لهم حق ممارسة الشعائر دون تضييق أو إكراه على ترك معتقداتهم أو المساس بها.
كشفت الدراسة أن المعاهدات في القانون الدولي – المعاصر – قد أسهمت في إقرار السلم والتضامن بين الشعوب بعضها البعض، وإن كانت في بعض الحالات سببًا في نشوب الصراع بسبب المعاهدات التي أخذت صفة أحلاف – والأحلاف المضادة – مثال: الحربين العالميتين الأولى والثانية.
وهذا يعلمنا أن الإسلام أرسى منظومة من القيم والمقاصد والأهداف الدنيوية منها الإخاء والتعاون بين البشر بخلاف القانون الدولي الذي يغلب مصلحة الدول على بعضها الآخر.

In order to establish the values of friendship, good neighbourhood and tolerance, Islam has set the basis for good manners and values in the treaties with other parties. These values were set primarily by The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. It is worth noticing that these values extended not only to the time of peace but also to the time of war as it was forbidden to kill non fighters, women, children or the elders. It also extended to the post-wartime as the prisoners of war were treated humanly, given food, clothes and medicine. Under these circumstances and the age mentioned in the study, Islam has also guaranteed the freedom of beliefs for non-muslims and assured the safety of their religious places and rituals. The present study has revealed that treaties in the international law have contributed to the stability of peace amongst countries although some of these treaties that led to the emerge of allies and counter-allies may have led to some conflicts such as WWI and WWII. This clearly shows that Islam has set values of peace, humanity, brotherhood and co-operation.
