Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.)-Cairo University, 2023. Summary: Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard for local staging of rectal cancer. Advanced computed tomography (CT) machines are now capable of high-resolution images of rectal cancer. The possibility of local staging of rectal cancer by CT needs to be explored . Purpose: The aim of the study is to evaluate accuracy of high-resolution CT for local rectal cancer staging. Methods: A high-resolution CT was performed for local staging of rectal cancer in our study group of 40 patients. Results: A good agreement between CT and MRI hen it comes to T staging with a Kappa score:0.8. Good agreement regarding N staging with a Kappa score of 0.7. In our study, there is no agreement between MRI and CT in detecting metastatic LNs. Conclusion: High resolution CT is an accurate tool for local staging of advanced stages of rectal cancer.Summary: الخلفية: التصوير بالرنين المغناطيسي هو المعيار الذهبي لتحديد مرحلة سرطان المستقيم محليًا. أصبحت أجهزة التصوير المقطعي المحوسب المتقدمة قادرة الآن على التقاط صور عالية الدقة لسرطان المستقيم. يجب استكشاف إمكانية تحديد مرحلة سرطان المستقيم محليًا باستخدام التصوير المقطعي المحوسب. الغرض: الهدف من الدراسة هو تقييم دقة التصوير المقطعي المحوسب عالي الدقة لتحديد مرحلة سرطان المستقيم محليًا. الطرق: تم إجراء التصوير المقطعي المحوسب عالي الدقة لتحديد مرحلة سرطان المستقيم محليًا في مجموعة الدراسة المكونة من 40 مريضًا. النتائج: هناك اتفاق جيد بين التصوير المقطعي المحوسب والتصوير بالرنين المغناطيسي عندما يتعلق الأمر بتحديد مرحلة T بدرجة كابا: 0.8. هناك اتفاق جيد فيما يتعلق بتحديد مرحلة N بدرجة كابا 0.7. في دراستنا، لا يوجد اتفاق بين التصوير بالرنين المغناطيسي والتصوير المقطعي المحوسب في الكشف عن الغدد الليمفاوية النقيلية. الخلاصة: التصوير المقطعي المحوسب عالي الدقة هو أداة دقيقة لتحديد مرحلة سرطان المستقيم محليًا في المراحل المتقدمة.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard for local staging of rectal cancer. Advanced computed tomography (CT) machines are now capable of high-resolution images of rectal cancer. The possibility of local staging of rectal cancer by CT needs to be explored .
