تهدف الدراسة إلى تحديد مفهوم وخصائص ومميزات المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة وآثارها الاقتصادية والاجتماعية سواء كانت إيجابية أو سلبية على الاقتصاد الإثيوبي, ووضع مجموعة من التوصيات والمقترحات اللازمة للحد من الآثار السلبية لتلك المشروعات, والاستفادة من آثارها الايجابية وذلك بعد تحليل البيئة الداخلية لعمل المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة في إثيوبيا (نقاط القوة والضعف), وتحليل البيئة الخارجية (الفرص والتحديات) المحيطة بتلك القطاع.
لقيت المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة اهتماماً واضحاً من جانب العديد من الدول والمنظمات الدولية وذلك في ظل مساهمتها الفعالة في النمو الاقتصادي والتنمية الاقتصادية للدول, وفي ضوء ذلك بذلت العديد من الدول النامية جهوداً واسعة لتشجيع وتنظيم عمل المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة, وذلك بعدما استطاعت تلك المشروعات اثبات دورها وتأثيرها الفعال للتصدي للمشكلات الاقتصادية التي تواجه البلاد حيث زيادة قدرتها الاستيعابية للعمالة مما يساهم في التغلب على مشكلة البطالة التي تواجه معظم الدول النامية وانخفاض تكلفة انشاءها.
وقد تم استخدام منهج التحليل الرباعي (SWOT) في الدراسة لتحليل عوامل البيئة الداخلية المتعلقة بطبيعة المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة في إثيوبيا من نقاط قوة تتمتع بها تلك المشروعات ونقاط ضعف تعاني منها, وكذلك تحليل عناصر البيئة الخارجية من فرص وتحديات تحيط بعمل المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة في إثيوبيا وتؤثر على أدائها.
وقد تم تقسيم الدراسة إلى مقدمة, وأربعة فصول, وخاتمة.

The study aims to identify the concept, characteristics and advantages of small and medium enterprises and their economic and social effects, whether positive or negative on the Ethiopian economy, and then develop a set of recommendations and proposals necessary to reduce the negative effects of those projects, and to benefit from its positive effects, after analyzing the internal environment of the work of small and medium enterprises in Ethiopia (strengths and weaknesses), and analyzing the external environment (opportunities and challenges) surrounding that sector, where small and medium enterprises received clear attention from many international organizations, in light of their effective contribution to the economic growth and economic development of countries, in light of this, many developing countries have pushed wide efforts to encourage and regulate the work of small and medium enterprises, after these projects were able to prove their role and effective impact on facing the economic problems that facing the country, where its absorptive capacity for more employment, which contributes to facing the problem of unemployment facing most developing countries and the low cost of its establishment.
The SWOT methodology was used in the study to analyze the internal environment factors related to the nature of small and medium enterprises in Ethiopia from the strengths of these enterprises and the weaknesses they suffer from, as well as to analyze the elements of the external environment of opportunities and challenges surrounding the work of small and medium enterprises in Ethiopia and affect their performance.
The study was divided into an introduction, four chapters, and a final section.
