Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) -Cairo University, 2023. Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of action observation physical training (AOPT) on upper limb functional abilities (upper limb functions and functional independence) in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (HCP). This study was conducted at Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University, on 30 children with HCP of both sexes whose ages ranged from 6 to 9 years. Grade I and + according to MAS, level II of GMFCS, Level II of MACS were selected. They were randomly assigned into two equal groups; control group and study group. Both groups were evaluated by using Quality of Upper Extremity Skills Test (QUEST) and Wee Functional Independence Measure (Wee FIM) scales. The control group received regular designed physical therapy program, while the study group received AOPT in addition to the designed physical therapy program. The treatment program for both groups was conducted for three times per week for three successive months. AOPT was conducted for 3 times per week each lasting 0.5 hour after the designed physical therapy program. The results of the study revealed that: There were no significant differences in pretreatment values of all domains of the QUEST (dissociated movement, weight bearing, grasp, protective extension) of the study group when compared with that of the control group. Also, there was no significant difference in Wee FIM between groups pretreatment. Concerning pre and post treatment mean values of QUEST of control group, there was a significant difference in dissociated movement and weight Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations 78 bearing domains of QUEST, while there was no significant difference in grasp and protective extension domains of QUEST. There was also a significant increase in Wee FIM of control group post treatment compared with pretreatment. Concerning pre and post treatment mean values of QUEST of the study group, there was a significant increase in all domains of QUEST post treatment compared with pretreatment. There was also a significant increase in Wee FIM of study group post treatment compared with pretreatment Concerning the post treatment mean values of QUEST of both groups (control and study group) showed that there was a significant increase in all domains of QUEST of study group compared with that of control group. There was also a significant increase in Wee FIM of the study group compared with that of control group post treatment.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of action observation
physical training (AOPT) on upper limb functional abilities (upper limb functions
and functional independence) in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (HCP).
This study was conducted at Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University,
on 30 children with HCP of both sexes whose ages ranged from 6 to 9 years.
Grade I and + according to MAS, level II of GMFCS, Level II of MACS were
selected.
They were randomly assigned into two equal groups; control group and
study group. Both groups were evaluated by using Quality of Upper Extremity
Skills Test (QUEST) and Wee Functional Independence Measure (Wee FIM)
scales.
The control group received regular designed physical therapy program,
while the study group received AOPT in addition to the designed physical therapy
program. The treatment program for both groups was conducted for three times
per week for three successive months. AOPT was conducted for 3 times per week
each lasting 0.5 hour after the designed physical therapy program.
The results of the study revealed that:
There were no significant differences in pretreatment values of all domains
of the QUEST (dissociated movement, weight bearing, grasp, protective
extension) of the study group when compared with that of the control group. Also,
there was no significant difference in Wee FIM between groups pretreatment.
Concerning pre and post treatment mean values of QUEST of control
group, there was a significant difference in dissociated movement and weight
Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations
78
bearing domains of QUEST, while there was no significant difference in grasp
and protective extension domains of QUEST. There was also a significant
increase in Wee FIM of control group post treatment compared with pretreatment.
Concerning pre and post treatment mean values of QUEST of the study
group, there was a significant increase in all domains of QUEST post treatment
compared with pretreatment. There was also a significant increase in Wee FIM
of study group post treatment compared with pretreatment
Concerning the post treatment mean values of QUEST of both groups
(control and study group) showed that there was a significant increase in all
domains of QUEST of study group compared with that of control group. There
was also a significant increase in Wee FIM of the study group compared with that
of control group post treatment.
