Purposes. To evaluate the effects of extracorporeal shock wave treatment on carpal tunnel syndrome post mastectomy lymphedema.
Methods. Sixty-eight females from 40 to 60 Years old. diagnosed with CTS and hand lymphedema by a physician referred to the clinic of physiotherapy participated in this randomized controlled trial. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups: group A (n=34) which is the study group, received shock wave treatment (SWT), and group B (n=34) which is the control group, received sham SWT. The two groups were given SWT one session per week combined with conventional physiotherapy (manual lymph drainage, compression bandage, exercise and skin care)2 sessions per week for four weeks. In this study visual analogue scale, limb volume, sensory and motor distal latency of median nerve and Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire were measured before and after the 4 weeks of the treatment. Results. Mixed MANOVA was conducted to investigate the effect of treatment and time on all measured variables, which revealed a statistically significant effect (F = 29.59, p = 0.001) in treatment and time in both groups. Conclusion. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy has a positive effect in reducing pain and intensity of symptoms associated with carpal tunnel syndrome with improving functionality in those with post-mastectomy lymphedema more than conventional therapy alone.
الغرض من الدراسة تقييم تأثير الموجات التصادمية في متلازمة النفق الرسغي في الوذمة الليمفاوية عقب استئصال الثدي.إشترك في هذه الدراسة على ثمانية وستين مريضة ممن يعانون من متلازمة النفق الرسغي في الوذمة الليمفاوية عقب استئصال الثدي أعمارهم تتراوح ما بين الأربعين والستين عاما وتم اختيارهم من العيادة الخارجية لكلية العلاج الطبيعي و قد تم تقسيمهم عشوائيا إلى مجموعتين متساويتين: المجموعة الأولى تكونت من اربعة وثلاثين مريضة ممن تلقوا العلاج بالموجات التصادمية بجانب العلاج الطبيعى التقليدى بواقع جلستان أسبوعيا وذلك لمدة اربعة اسابيع.والمجموعة الثانية تكونت من اربعة وثلاثين مريضة ممن تلقوا العلاج الطبيعى التقليدى بواقع جلستان أسبوعيا وذلك لمدة اربعة اسابيع. ولقد أظهرت النتائج فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين المجموعتين قبل وبعد العلاج كما اوضح قياس المقياس التناظري البصري وحجم الأطراف ودراسة التوصيل العصبي للعصب المتوسط واستبيان بوسطن للنفق الرسغي قبل وبعد الأسابيع الأربعة من العلاج.
