Summary: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease that causes abnormal inflammations that mainly affect the joints as well as other organs like the eyes and the lungs. Although the exact cause of RA is unknown, RA is suspected to be the result of several environmental and genetic factors. In this thesis, a genome-wide association study was carried out with the sequence kernel association test on the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Consortium (NARAC) dataset to identify both rare and common RA-related variants.
