Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Analytical Chemistry Summary: In this study, two wastewater treatment schemes have been investigated. The first one consisted of an anaerobic hybrid reactor (AHR) followed by a down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) system. The integrated system was fed continuously with municipal wastewater and operated at a total constant hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 8.0 h (AHR: 6.0 h and DHS: 2.0 h) and an average organic loading rate (OLR) of 1.9 kg COD/m 3.d for the AHR and 2.1 kg COD/m 3.d for the DHS system
