Patients with ALL often have decreased neutrophils despite an increased total WBC count. As a result they are at increased risk of incidence and severity of infections which is correlated inversely with the absolute neurtophil count (ANC) due to the severe nature of this disease and the concomitant aggressive treatment used for intervention
